Sports injuries

Physiotherapy for sports injuries

If you love sport, nothing is more frustrating than an injury that stops you from doing it.

Sports injuries respond really well to physio. The treatment recommended will vary depending on how long you’ve had the injury, how severe it is and of course the type of sports injury.

Common types of injury we treat

We treat lots of different types of sports injuries from many different types of sports in our clinic. The most common types we see include:

  • Tendon problems
  • Back pain
  • Bursitis
  • Knee pain (especially patellofemoral problems and ITB syndrome)
  • Shin pain
  • Heel pain (plantarfasciitis)

How we can help

If you’ve only just hurt yourself (acute sports injury) some of the early physiotherapy treatments we offer at our clinic include ultrasound, sports taping, gentle joint mobilisations and sports massage. Our physios will advise you on the things you can do to help your injury heal quickly and well. We’ll get you back to the sport you enjoy as fast as possible with an effective, graded rehabilitation programme – specifically designed for your sport – to prevent any further problems.

If you’ve had your injury for a while (chronic sports injury) then you may have an old injury that hasn’t healed very well or the problem may be due to ‘overuse’. As part of treatment our physiotherapists may examine the way you are moving (biomechanics), discuss your training patterns, look at your footwear and equipment and assess your technique and lifestyle as part of a comprehensive treatment plan to restore pain-free and unrestricted movement.
